The Past Perfect tense is used to describe an action that was completed before another action or point in the past. It shows which of two past actions happened first.
Form of the Past Perfect:

When Do We Use the Past Perfect?
- Action completed before another action in the past: The Past Perfect is used to show that one action happened before another in the past.
- She had left by the time I arrived.
- Action completed before a specific time in the past: It can also describe an action that was completed before a certain point in the past.
- They had finished their homework by 9 PM.
- Describing experiences before a certain time in the past: The Past Perfect can also show that something had happened before a certain time or event in the past.
- I had already seen that movie when you invited me to watch it.
Examples:
- I had finished my work before the meeting started. (positive)
- He had already eaten when I called him. (positive)
- They hadn’t visited the museum when we were there. (negative)

- We had waited for an hour before the train finally arrived. (positive)
